The Benefits of Using Serums

Serums are one of the best ways to keep the skin moisturized, resolving any issues you may be experiencing.

Breaking Down Serums: So, what exactly are serums?

Serums have a water or gel-like consistency and are specially formulated to penetrate deep into the skin. Due to their small molecular size, serums target the deeper layers of the skin rather than laying on the surface. This allows for correcting skin issues and delivering long-lasting results.

Serums are composed of active, potent ingredients that work to correct skin issues that they are formulated for. For example, the active ingredient in an anti-aging serum is one that specifically targets aging. This may be an ingredient such as glycolic acid. Glycolic acid acts to loosen and remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface resulting in brighter, fresher skin, working to treat uneven skin tone, uneven skin texture and helps to reduce the signs of aging. Active ingredients are the ideal way to give the skin the nutrients it needs while also working to heal, prevent skin damage or prevent skin problems on a cellular level.

Serums Vs. Moisturizers

For an effective skin care regimen that delivers optimal results, you need to use a serum with a moisturizer. Unlike serums, moisturizers have a thicker consistency and are designed to keep moisture within the skin while preventing moisture from leaving it. Due to the molecular size of the ingredients within a moisturizer, it lays on the skin's surface. This makes potent moisturizers difficult to penetrate the skin in order to solve skin concerns.

Although there are moisturizers that claim to correct or target certain issues (example: aging, acne, dark spots etc.) they don't have the power to correct the problem. When a serum and moisturizer are combined together into the skin, skin issues can be addressed more effectively. A serum and moisturizer together provides the skin with the necessary nutrients and optimal hydration.

In order to get the best results from a skin care regimen, the following protocol is highly recommended. Cleanse, tone, serum, eye cream, moisturizer and finish with SPF. Exfoliating and masking 2-3 times per week are added bonuses.
